Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by Davey M — 26 Mar 2014
A very European sense of fairy tale archetypes (good and evil, love conquering all) coupled with the very American notion of the superhero (the worth of the extraordinary individual within his or her community) makes for a terrific sequel to and improvement on Del Toro's original "Hellboy.
" "Hellboy II" has glorious visuals, delicious creature design, compelling characters, some well-executed action sequences, a very droll sense of humor, and a thrillingly honest sense of magic and morality, plus Barry Manilow.
What a great movie.
