Review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) by Faisal A — 13 Nov 2015
I misjudged the film the first time I saw it back in 2008. I don't know what it is, but outside of the awesome, creative visuals, something about it was off-putting. Watching it again, I was only half-right about the way I felt about it.
I think the film was a bit too personal, and the dialogue between various characters was quite awkward and sometimes felt a bit irrelevant, or needed to be rethought. The pacing is also another problem with the film, that the prequel suffered from too.
However, I did like the film a Hell of a lot better the second time around, and honestly, it is very ambitious, and somewhat well-written. I just wish that the central theme of being an outcast, of protecting a world that doesn't want you etc.
, should have been handled alot better. Still, its a solid film. Del Toro, care to make it the second in a trilogy (at least)?
