Review of Hellboy (2004) by Joshua J — 29 May 2012
This is a comic book movie of the old variety, the ones that, unlike Christopher Nolan's Batman series, or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, never try to transcend their genre and their limitations.
For a movie of that guard, "Hellboy" is incredibly well done. A good cast, including John Hurt as a standout, carry this movie through good visuals and an engaging plot.
For a movie of it's type, you can't expect much more, and it's certainly an improvement over Guillermo del Toro's former comic book adaptation, "Blade II".
