Review of Hellboy (2004) by Bugger217 — 02 Sep 2017
When discussing turn-of-the-century comic book movies, the likes of Spider-Man 2 and X-Men 2 are always mentioned among the best. But there's one movie that many seem to forget: Hellboy. Director Guillermo del Toro took all the lessons he had learned from his smaller Spanish-language films and his English-language crowd-pleasers, then smashed them together, and the results are magical.
Part fairy tale fantasy and part traditional superhero movie, Hellboy delivers a menagerie of colorful characters portrayed by a wonderful cast. These characters live a strange and mystical world, brought to life brilliantly by del Toro's masterful eye. The set design is superb, and the imagery is simply stunning. Of course, there's some truly thrilling action as well. If Hellboy passed under your radar, I can't recommend checking it out enough.
