Review of Hellboy (2004) by Lisa C — 11 Mar 2011
Visually arresting, but horribly formulaic and slow-paced. There are a couple of interesting characters, but the rest are flat with no energy and their actions are too predictable. That has the effect of making you not care about them.
So when the old professor dies and the love interest is in danger, it's hard to really care, and that makes it hard to empathize with the central character's pain or motivations. So overall, it's just an unsatisfying experience.
Two stars.
