Review of Hell Ride (2008) by Private U — 10 Apr 2009
Paying homage to Sergio Leoneâ??s spaghetti westerns doesnâ??t really seem to work here. If anything Iâ??d maybe say this picture pays homage to Roger Corman. With the naked women, the violence, and the â??funâ??, there really isnâ??t much room for anything else.
I guess after this got screened at Sundance, Alex Billington had a review roughly starting with, â??Iâ??ll say it plan and simple, Hell Ride was a fuckin blastâ??. The whole scheme that movies today are simply made for entertainment, and they are just fun, is quickly becoming a lame cop out for pictures definitely lacking any substance.
Lets throw some tits, guns, and violence and we have a stellar movie. With that, the picture still held somewhat true to the biker genre, but all the viewer is left with is this stereotypical take on what the 1 % lifestyle was like or is like today.
Of course this could be tagged as a B movie, another justification. But I donâ??t know of many B movies that have a production value such as Hell Ride, along with quite the celebrity cast. My only advice is next time if you want to be regarded as making a B movie, make an actual B movie, shoot gritty, hire no names, and then maybe we could go the B route.
I guess the intentions of the filmmakers are clear, or at least I hope they are, and that is to entertain us, and show us a good time. Bravo, something that should be done more often. Right.
