Review of Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988) by Bryan W — 03 Jun 2008
I will never give an inch on 'Roddy Pipper as greatest failed to launch action star.' He's fantastic - Bruce Cambell with steroid mass. Will I say 'Hell Comes to Frogtown' is a forgotten classic, worthy of the Hot Rod's participation, and seldom sown movie juices? Can't say I will.
There's so much potential in the fever dream softcore premise: Sam Hell must rid the post-apocalyptic future of frog mutants via samurai sword whilst impregnating 80's babes by governmental decree. The execution is appropriately lighthearted and the camp is kept and an even kiel, but the build up, and pay off are remarkably unremarkable. Super out there window dressing for a store that deals in timeworn standbys. Lame.
