Review of Heist (2001) by Justin D — 31 Jul 2004
Heist was pretty much a drag until the last half an hour. The movie is a slow set up for a big heist which is common among these theif movies but this one seemed to drag on a little more than usual. When it finally started to get interesting (when the heist actually begins), the movie tries to keep you on your toes by making you think the gold is in one place when in reality, it is only a decoy.
Its one thing to do this once, or hell, even twice, but Gene Hackman's character must be way too untrustworthy to have that many decoys for the gold. Plus his loyalties seemed off. His own wife was tricked before she even confessed about being a traitor while his other friend seemed to be in on the scheme.
Additionally to the set up of the movie, the dialog wasnt' very good either. I wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the insane amount of analogies they used. Examples of what I am talking about include "Quiet as an ant pissing on cotton", "As cute as a Chinese baby," and "As long as a Chinese person's name" (or something like that).
Those are just a select few of the analogies, trust me, there are way too many in this movie. They tried to be clevor, but it was annoying, just like they tried to be clevor with an insane amount of decoys.
