Review of Heist (2001) by Nikolai E — 12 Feb 2008
One of the flat-out best heist movies ever. The script is so affected it might as well be a foreign language, but after a steep learning curve you'll find yourself suddenly fluent. The plot is confounding, yet never incomprehensible, and never overly relies on left-field gimmicks, with a conclusion that's satisfying and doesn't leave you feeling cheated.
It doesn't reach for anything in particular beyond a dense collection of plot twists, but there's something to be said for an excellent genre film.
