Review of Heist (2001) by Patrick K — 15 Feb 2010
This is a fantastic heist film and Gene Hackman is as BA as ever. The well written story accounts for every intricate detail necessary for a believable heist and just when you think that you've seen the final twist, you'll realize that you are wrong.
Though the greatest character motivation in a movie like this is revenge (Italian Job, Ocean's Eleven), money talks and Hackman's need for cash to get out of "the business" gives him a believable motivation throughout the movie.
Though character development isn't the primary goal in this movie, great characters emerge from Sam Rockwell's hateable incompetence to Rebecca Pidgeon's "cool chick" attitude and Delroy Lindo's pure awesomeness.
"Heist" is a favorite of mine and this movie is guarenteed to keep you guessing.
