Review of Heist (2001) by Sean P — 13 Feb 2014
I like David Mamet as far as he goes. The problem is that he's so bad at establishing setting in his films. I liked Spartan a lot more than I liked this, but, even in that, my problem is the lack of extras.
Mamet's expertise is as a playwright, and that comes out in the fact that his scripts are always well-written, and his lead character is always strong. That works on a stage, but not so well on a screen.
There are probably less than twenty actors in this movie. The result of this is that the film feels like it's in its own world instead of taking place in the real world. It's just not that good.
