Review of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) by Annelise H — 09 Oct 2008
I loved this film. After seeing shortbus, I was worried it would be a little flat. (I did not like Shortbus at all) This film really benefited from having the director/writer/producer John Cameron Mitchell in the film: he gave it the vivacity that the actors in Shortbus couldn't produce.
The film which is part musical, part dream, and part brutal reality is wonderfully put together to show the struggles (social, religious, emotional) Hedwig goes through while dealing with intense sexual turmoil.
Some what of an odd coming of age/sexuality/being movie. The music is decent and John Cameron has quite a good singing voice and I enjoyed the music throughout despite the interesting context in which the songs were set.
