Review of Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014) by Private U — 09 Apr 2015
Hector and the search for Happiness is endearing and emotional. Hector is a psychiatrist who is supposed to fix people, but, whom , perhaps is himself, broken. Trapped in a daily mundane ritual, he looses it with one of his patients after which he decides to take a trip far away, alone. Along the way, his search for happiness brings him sensual awakening, adventure, fear and a rediscovery of happiness within himself.
The film's director balances subtle comedy throughout the melodrama, leading you a range of emotions.
In the end, when we look for happiness, we soon discover the happiness we sought far and wide, exists right in front of us. Be happy with what we have.
This is not a film for everyone, but, It was a welcome change from the explosive Hollywood Block Busters.
