Review of Heckler (2007) by Richard H — 27 Jun 2009
Ironically crap. The only message I got was that artists are not allowed to receive critique because they have feelings. It's fine when they write nice things but any critique is shot down.
Fair enough, it can be hard taking the criticism but we can't just have papers filled with positive reviews all the time, it'd be sickening.
It was a good doco when they were focusing on the hecklers but it seemed they needed to fill more time and started abusing critics. Perhaps I didn't enjoy it because I uncomfortable and sick.
I don't like that the film seems to spout this message that critics shouldn't say what they say because of the artists feelings. Excuse me, but many of the comedians spoken to spout racist comments and jokes against religion. Quite often critics comments are spoken in jest, much like the comments of the comedian. Bit of a double standard. As someone else said, this film ended up sounding like a giant bitch session.
Started strong, ended poorly.
