Review of Heckler (2007) by Rocko P — 11 Oct 2010
An interesting look at how comedians and stage performers respond to criticism, albeit during inconvenient times or overtly malicious. The film at first focused on comedians being heckled on stage and how they handled the rude behavior.
Many discussed having bits prepared in case there were audience members who wanted to disrupt the show, but the spotlight shifts later towards critics in general. Rather than analyzing the work, some are actually motivated by their preconceived notions prior to even seeing the new content.
It perhaps culminates to a final conclusion about American Culture. We prop up the underdogs, we bask them in this light of pure awe-inspiring perfection that no one can attain, and proceed to tear them down.
I genuinely do understand the message that the movie is trying to convey, but it doesn't go enough in-depth. The film tries hard, but flounders to drive home the moral of the story.
