Review of Heavy Metal (1981) by Tristan G — 12 Feb 2008
This was a film I used to love as a kid. Watching it now, it's incredibly more disturbing and dated, but still quite fun I think. Still, I am extremely bothered by two parts of this film. The scene at the beginning of the Taarn sequence where the little boy gets killed with the spikes sticking out of his face and his bulging eyes, and the entire B-17 sequence with the zombies on the plane.
It just goes to show you that an animated film can do the trick at provoking an emotional reaction just as well as a live-action film can. This film, is pretty bad-ass and the title suits it pretty well.
Check it out unless you're offended by buckets of blood and A LOT of nudity and sex.
