Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Tony D — 28 Aug 2007
I'm torn between those who hate it and those who love it. I see hard-work, acute attention to detail, beautiful cinematography, a wonderful performance by Huppert, a few nice battle scenes and a nifty dance number at the beginning, on the one hand.
On the other hand I see an overlong, rather dull narrative with scenes like the Graduation speech at the beginning which seem to take an eternity to end. The better edged out by a bit.
