Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Alfred D — 26 Sep 2007
A Flawed Giant. A French critic described this as a still born poem. I'd have to agree. The story about class warfare, how the rich oppress the poor, and how the West was truly won is a fascinating take on what is usually just subtext in most westerns.
This is Das Kapital of Westerns. The biggest problems are terrible sound and weak characterization. Kris Kristofferson is awesome though! A film of Devastating Beauty and one for the ages.
