Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Nick N — 06 Jan 2010
I stayed away from this a long time for obvious reasons and guess what? It's an amazing film-- a magnificent, ravishing, epic yet offbeat oddball of a Western. Possibly the hardest thing to take about it is the slow pace, but those with adult-sized attention spans will be rewarded.
If the director were named Visconti, Leone, or Malick, "Heaven's Gate" would be regarded as a masterpiece.
