Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Elliot R — 13 May 2008
What a boring film. I thought Peter Jackson managed to capture teen angst quite well but besides Kate Winslet everyone else is dull to look at. Then there's the problematic story. I think it's poorly executed with a dull plodding pace and unnecessary exposition.
There are so many ways it could have been better whilst remaining true to the real events. Things like over long scenes of the teen imagination was pure self indulgence and I don't think translate well visually when you're trying to keep the drama not only interesting but helping it to rise to a satisfying climax.
