Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Giffy G — 03 Jun 2008

This movie had me transfixed. I found the characters delightful and frightening simultaneously. The scenes that took place in the Fourth World were brilliantly filmed and carefully integrated into a realistic script.

I love that the movie resisted labelling them lesbians, I love that even though I found their actions monstrous I still liked them as people and sympathized with them, and I love that the letters and the diaries were integrated as vital parts of the movie, and not just as a plot device or historical documents.

A really enjoyable movie.
