Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Zac T — 30 Sep 2008
I had the odd experience of seeing the tail ends of Peter Jackson's career in quick succession - 'Lord of the Rings', and then, in a record store in Pasadena, 'Bad Taste'. It was startling, and I wondered how the gulf between these two films could possibly be filled.
This movie is very much the crux of his career, the point at which he reveals himself as a brilliant cinematic stylist with an epic scope to complement his grotesque, prankish, and lush fantasy worlds. This is an excellent movie, and Jackson is a supremely interesting filmmaker.
