Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Natasha A — 01 Mar 2009
An excellent little movie, with superb performances from both Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men) and Kate Winslet (her movie debut). Winslet plays Juliet, a girl who desparately wants her parents approval, but resorts to creating an elaborate fantasy world, into which she draws Pauline, a frumpy class outsider.
Their friendship takes a sinister turn when Juliet's parents part ways and she learns that she will have to move abroad to live with an aunt. Refusing to be parted, the girls take matters into their own hands.
A suitably impressive debut for Winset, who was destined for greatness.
