Review of Heaven on Earth (2008) by Geneviève C — 05 Apr 2010
A sickening tale of spousal abuse where the husband's entire family is complicit. The abusive husband's mother - who exhibits behaviours that are clearly pathological - is the initiator of much of the abuse and family tension.
The abused imported bride/slave takes refuge in mythology/delusion, and delays taking real steps to improve her situation. The film paints a very bleak picture of spousal abuse in an isolated immigrant community, and offers little if any hope for change.
