Review of Heaven (2002) by Louise V — 07 Sep 2008
That was definitely a Kieslowski/Piesiewicz screenplay; starting from Kieslowski's recurring fate themes, his questions about morality and his flawed, guilty and humane characters. Blanchett was great as ever and subtle, I loved the scene at the Carabenieri when she collapsed once knew the outcome of her action. Giovanni Ribisi was fine too and said much without speaking.
Although I always like wide shots, and Tykwer's cinematographer used lots of wider-than-average shots indoors and really really wide shots outdoors, but I felt that he was showing off a little; with spanning the camera up and down, right and left all the time, I didn't like that. Plus, the film's lighting was kind of monotonous so that was kinda boring visually.
I wonder how would Kieslowski direct this film and visualize it.
