Review of Heat (1995) by Robyn M — 22 Jul 2012
Michael Mann's epic crime saga delves into the themes of dedication and obsession and the sacrifices one gives to their profession, no matter what side of the law they are working on. Although Pacino and DeNiro share a minimal amount of screen time together, the way Mann shows each perspective is skilled and flawless.
Iconic shootouts are spread everywhere throughout the plot and the amount of influence this film has carried over the years still holds up to this day (Christopher Nolan has openly stated that this film was the key influence for the introductory bank heist in The Dark Knight).
This is not only a staple for bank heist features, but also Michael Mann setting ins tone his mastery of the genre.
