Review of Heat (1995) by Edgar C — 31 Dec 2012
Mann's breathtaking character study brilliantly compares the highs and lows of a cold-blooded criminal and those of a morally challenged, conventional cop. Intertwined destinies collide with absolutely fantastic character development, creating an iconic representation of the two sides of the coin of the law like anything Hollywood conceived during the whole decade. Action and suspense were casually overused genres and Mann knew it. Therefore, he brings an unusually brilliant, absorbing and invigorating epic of hardships and confused priorities with a style that would leave a strong influential trademark, reminiscent of the 60s and 70s, yet a hell of a style and a genius homage finale.
97/100.
