Review of Heat (1995) by Vadim D — 04 Jul 2014
This is Michal Mann at his best with his night shoots and atmospheric music. Few directors use LA better than Mann, as the city quite often becomes a character of its own as opposed to just a locale. The big shoot out scene is masterfully done in Downtown LA, and is still one of the most memorable scenes in film history, along with the end scene that is perfectly paired with Moby's music.
Of course the pairing of Pacino and De Niro creates classic must-see status even though they only share a couple of scenes. However, the film is full of great performances, inlcuding Kilmer and Ashley Judd.
Definitely one of the best movies of the 90s...at least as far as crime thrillers go.
