Review of Heat (1995) by Tristan M — 17 Oct 2015
Don't know how to took me so long to watch this one, as it's now in my top favourite movies of all time. It's simply perfectly done. The characters are the best part, and their stories. Each one is amazingly well developed and, and has a great actor to play them.
This movie has such a great cast of some of the most famous actors there is, Al Pacino, Robert de Niro, Val Vilmer, Tom Sizemore, Natalie Portman, their all here, and do an amazing job for each of their characters.
There's no rooting for good guys or bad guys, as by the end we have no idea who we want to come out on top, and although we want a winner and final standoff, we almost want Neil to escape so neither of them are killed.
So above all the characters are amazing and make the movie. The story is simple, yet complex and well done, and the long running time is nice to get in everything under great detail. There's always a sudden turn of events to take place as soon as we think it might be winding down, such as Vincent's stepdaughter cutting her wrists in the bathtub.
Caught me completely off guard, and always has your attention ok the screen. The ending is great, and with the help of a killer score it has a lasting expression. Last and most certainly not least is the action.
I think this has 100% the best movie shootout ever on screen, not counting military movies, as that's a different category. The sound effects are something never heard before, no editing, just raw blanks being fired in the city streets with amazing echoes and incredibly loud and violent.
It's non stop crazy real, the bullets hitting cars and walls, blood from hits, empty shells flying from the guns, and reloading like a boss, there's nothing like it anywhere except real life gunfights.
Amazing movie, can't say enough, everything is done right, and it shows, shining in every aspect.
