Review of Heartless (2010) by Sarah C — 03 Sep 2009
Wow. Absolutely stunning and somewhat impossible to describe, Heartless is a modern day Faustian fable written and directed by master of the weird himself, Philip Ridley.
When I saw it at Frightfest, Jim Sturgess performed two of the soundtrack songs live before the screening, which in themselves were haunting and set the mood for the film itself.
Made by anyone else, this film would be commonplace. But Ridley brings a unique magic to this tale of misfit Jamie and his efforts to find his place in the chaos of modern day life.
While not without its flaws, I have to say that I was transfixed.
