Review of Heart of Glass (1976) by Derrick C — 25 Mar 2008
One of Herzog's more esoteric works, this is nonetheless compelling due to the fact that most of the actors were under hypnosis, and the opening passages do quite well at invoking a hypnotizing spell over the audience.
The plot has to do with madness, a glass factory and a cow herder who has detailed visions of the future. These threads all pay off in the expected way, but the ending passages on a deserted mountainous island are transcendent and gorgeously mounted.
