Review of Heart and Souls (1993) by Ryan J — 13 May 2010
I unabashedly love this film. It's kind, and sweet, and affecting-- sure it's conventional and sentimental, but so what? Those aren't inherently criticisms, and only the most cynical among us would universally say they were. Here, they're employed touchingly, and even sparingly, and centered around a believable universe. And that universe is populated by great actors. I mean, GREAT actors. The element they bring with them really just lands it.
There's no need to feel guilty, because the power it has over you isn't manipulative, but wholly sincere. That's what makes it a great film, I think. Sincerity. And Robert Downey Jr. pretending to be Tom Sizemore.
