Review of Headhunters (2011) by Frank C — 09 Oct 2014
Easily the weirdest action thriller I have sat through. Did I miss the class on Norwegian black comedies, or is this how this was supposed to play out? At first I was preparing myself for something along the lines of The Departed but ended up getting something closer to Ocean's Eleven. But don't get me wrong, I loved it.
Aksel Hennie captures your attention, from the smooth businessman to the man scared for his life breathing through a toilet roll in a pile of shit. If not for his performance, I'm not sure the whole thing would work. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau pretty much plays himself, charming but with a dark touch. The actresses playing wife Diana and other woman Lotte also play their parts.
Little happens in Headhunters that I expect, and really that is why I choose to watch a thriller What kind of thrill is a roller coaster that goes at a single speed in a straight line? The twists and turns in this film are both sharp and frequent, so be prepared.
