Review of He Was a Quiet Man (2007) by Matthew W — 31 Mar 2008
Christian Slater has really been in a lot of craptacular films. How far his star has fallen from the days of "Heathers" and "True Romance". When I see he is in a film these days, I worry that I may be getting a shiny, round, silver turd in my video box like Uwe Boll's "Alone In The Dark".
For some reason, "He Was A Quiet Man" stuck out on the video shelf. It could be that Mr. Slater looked like such a dork on the cover, that I was shocked into picking it up. I did a little research on RT and read the reviews which were mostly positive.
I gave it a spin and was duly impressed. I would say that this was one of Christian Slater's best works. The story is about a lonely, depressed, and angry man who talks to his fish about killing the people in his office.
He dreams of blowing the building up and brings a handgun to work every day. It is no wonder, because his bosses are nasty, shallow, and extremely cruel people. He finally gets the courage up to do the deed, but is thwarted as one of his co-workers beats him to the punch! What happens next should be experienced by you, fearless reader! This movie has a slightly surreal quality and the production values are quite good with great camera work, some well done CGI, and superb acting all around.
Elisha Cuthbert and William H Macy find their way into this flick, and even John Gulager, winner of the last Project Greenlight and director of "Feast" has a small role. This is very worth a rental as we wait for the new post writer's strike material to show up on the tube.
8.3/10.
