Review of He Was a Quiet Man (2007) by Evan D — 24 May 2012
Inspiring acting from Christian Slater such a strong movie and a great directing job for Frank Cappello who is primarily a screenwriter and a good one at that. This movie is dark, it's not for everyone either it's for the ones who like the dark side of humans.
That person is me. The movie begins with Bob Maconel, a loser, a spazz who gets picked on at an office, who comes in ready to shoot people in his office only to find that another coworker beat him to it.
A woman he actually liked was shot and paralyzed (Elisha Cuthbert) he saves her life, becomes a local hero and develops a romance with Vanessa the paralyzed woman. Great acting from Elisha Cuthbert as well I was actually quite surprised by it, the whole movie was strong and haunts it's viewer.
Again, it's dark content is not for everyone, there is no light to the darkness in this movie but it does deliver strong performances and film-making style. Inspiring really, it made me wish I wrote it, I would be proud if I did.
It's an indie gem I wish Christian Slater landed more roles now, he's a gifted actor who gets ignored and it's not fair.
