Review of He Was a Quiet Man (2007) by Samuel M — 26 Jan 2011
Christian Slater did such an awesome job on this flick, what a fun actor to watch! It's rare you get to see someone so good at their role, you don't even see the movie star, you see only the character they portray.
The plot its self is also good, right up to the end. I won't post any spoilers, but suffice to say - the end counter-acts the second act. Sure, mystery revelations are fun, but you have to build up to them.
In the commentary the director mentioned that others on the set and friends all disliked the ending he chose, and while the ending was good - there was a reason I too did not like it. It's one thing to give us a bit of a twist, but it's another to not have it founded on anything.
(or in the case of this movie - the whole second act) Overall a good movie, good plot, and great acting - but I feel the delivery of the end was poorly scripted/edited.
