Review of He & She (1994) by Mattias E — 04 Mar 2010
Very entertaining and competent romcom material, with the United Filmmakers quality control stamp all over it. He's A Woman, She's A Man stands out from contemporary HK cinema in every way, most notably in acting and art direction, making it appeal to a universal audience.
The collective of writers behind the movie have obviously been sneaking looks at Hollywood, abandoning the usual playful HK approach to genres for a more balanced, or perhaps mature, way of levelling the comedy with the drama.
The gay issue is dealt with in a frank but rather evasive manner, keeping things politically correct but playing it very safe. Still, a delightful watch.
