Review of Hawk the Slayer (1980) by George C — 18 Oct 2007
John Terry is Hawk, a wooden actor with a magic sword. Jack Palance is Voltan, a scenery chewing madman with a pechant for killing nuns. This film also has a dwarf, a giant, a vulcan trying to be an elf, a one handed man with an automatic crossbow and a witch who can shoot neon balls or crazy string at her enemies.
Sounds terrible right? WRONG!!!! This pilot for a series that was never made is stunningly wonderful, low production values and plot holes so big you could drive a wooly mammoth through do not tarnish this film made with so much passion you have to love it back.
If you are expecting top quality fantasy prepare to be dissapointed, if you are looking for a slice of childhood nostalgia wrapped up in a poorly disguised Magnificent Seven box you will forever be in awe.
I still search ebay for an elven mindstone every day but only find elven kidneystones.
