Review of Haven (2004) by Shala T — 06 Jun 2007
Oh, Orlando Bloom. You have produced one really good movie. And you got you a black girl (Yes, lol) "Haven" is executive produced by the same people who brought you "Crash" with some help from Orlando Bloom.
Instead of L.A., we are taken to the Cayman Islands but it tackles similar issues of race and its impacts of family and society.. I felt that the multiple stories blended together greatly and again we see how everyone's lives are interconnected even when they maybe shouldn't be.
Orlando Bloom is most known for its long epic/adventure films ("Lord of the Rings" & "Pirates") but glad he is now starting to spread his wings as an actor and taking more real-to-life roles (let's forget "Elizabethtown" which he was pretty cute in but that movie missed the mark).
This movie was made a few years ago (about the same time as "Crash" and unfortunately never got picked up by a major studio for theater distribution (which is why there is a gap between its make and release to DVD).
All in all, great film with a great ensemble cast. Big ups to Anthony Mackie who I will be keeping an eye on in movies to come.
