Review of Hatchet III (2013) by Renzo V — 12 Aug 2014
"THE RETURN TO VICTOR CROWLEY'S SWAMP".
- 'Hatchet 3' is a 2013 slasher film written by Adam Green (Hatchet saga, Frozen) and directed by BJ McDonnell. Logically, it forms the third installment in the gruesome 'Hatchet'-franchise, starring the deformed serial killer Victor Crowley. The series is known for its explicit gore and violence. I must say I've enjoyed this movie more than the second one. The story takes of where the previous one had ended and shows a final confrontation between Victor Crowley and Marybeth Dunston. Reappearing cast members are Kane Hodder (Hatchet, Friday the 13th films) and Danielle Harris (Halloween franchise, Urban Legend). Added to the cast are Zach Galligan (Gremlins films) and Caroline Williams (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Leprechaun 3). And cameo's from legendary Sid Haig (House of a 1000 Corpses, Foxy Brown) and Joel David Moore (Hatchet, Avatar). Some Legends Never Die...
It had been a peaceful day in the Jefferson Parish Police Station after the Mardi Grass Festival, when suddenly a blood-soaked Marybeth Dunston (Harris) walks in, carrying a rifle and a piece of human head. She surrenders to Sheriff Fowler (Galligan) and tells him about the two massacres by local legend Victor Crowley (Hodder) that took place at Honey Island Swamp. While the police heads to the swamp to investigate, Marybeth is placed in a cell where she is visited by Fowler's ex-wife Amada (Williams), who is a journalist and Victor Crowley expert. The woman claims that the terror of the mutilated killer will never be over, unless he gets what he wants: his father's ashes. Together they go and seek Victor's only living relative, the crazy Abbott McMullen (Haig).
