Review of Hatchet II (2010) by Matt R — 18 May 2014
"THE RETURN OF VICTOR CROWLEY".
- 'Hatchet 2' is a 2010 slasher film written and directed by Adam Green. In this second installment of the horror trilogy the story continues where the first movie ended. In the first part of the movie the history of Victor gets explained, the second part is where another massacre takes place. Brainless (tasteless?) entertainment with lots of explicit gore and twisted humor. I must confess I liked the first one better. With returning cast members Tony Todd (The Candyman, Final Destination) and Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th films), and adding Tom Holland (Psycho 2) and Danielle Harris (Halloween films, Urban Legend) replacing Tamara Feldman as Marybeth Dunston. Hold on to your pieces...
Marybeth Dunston (Harris) is the sole survivor who manages to escape the hatchet of swamp maniac Victor Crowley (Hodder). She is rescued by Jack Cracker, a local fisherman. When he learns her last name he forces Marybeth to leave and advices her to go and talk to Reverend Zombie (Todd). And so she visits Zombie's voodoo shop. The man tells her the tragic story of Victor Crowley and reveals that her father was one of the boys who was responsible for Victor's death.
Determined to have her vengeance, Marybeth wants to go back and kill Crowley for once and for all. Zombie agrees to help her, but insists she brings a relative with her. Together with her uncle Bob (Holland), Reverend Zombie and a group of heavily armed hunters, Marybeth returns to the swamp...
