Review of Hatchet II (2010) by Joe A — 01 Feb 2011
4/10 - Let me just say that this flick must have gotten yanked from theaters NOT cause of the violence, but rather, cause it's a horrible movie.
I like Adam Green. He seems like a passionate guy, and a really cool dude to boot. I loved Hatchet, LOVED Frozen, and after all the "buzz" about this flick, I was expecting more of the goofy goodness of the first. But alas, it was just bad. The first was done with love and care, on a shoe string budget, and looked like it was shot by an experienced crew on a 40 day schedule. This one had twice the budget, and looked very amateurish in comparison.
For me, there was nothing really redeeming about this flick. The directing was easily Adam's worst. The acting was horrible, especially Danielle Harris. She was just horrid, in every way. She may be adorable, but she was just cringingly bad here. After about 20min, her "southern" accent went from off and on, to just non existent. The best performance in the whole movie was Kane Hodder playing Thomas Crowley. The FX were decent, but again, twice the budget seemed to mean more pay for the actors, and nothing more.
I THINK I know where Adam was going with this, but he clearly fell far short of at least my expectations. This went from a day 1 BluRay purchase, to a "eh, maybe if I see it used one day".
Disappointing indeed. :/.
