Review of Hatchet (2006) by Kane L — 17 Aug 2013
Although perhaps unworthy of the status it has helmed ('holy grail of horror movies') I believe that Hatchet does a great many things right. The script is clever enough to evenly balance scares with it's wit and has the power to make us sympathise with the characters, laugh at them and also fear what blood bath they may be subjected to.
Hatchet is a very entertaining movie which is the perfect homage for those 80s slasher flicks it is tributing, yet it feels very short. Hatchet's most prominent flaw is its pacing, which leads us into almost an hour of the film with no horror business going down, which can result in the audience's perception of the climax as an underwhelming experience.
But when all is said and done, a strong little horror flick.
