Review of Hatchet (2006) by Nicky M — 28 Aug 2008
A 80's slasher flick hidden in lots of 2007 gore, Hatchet passes the time quickly. Fans of the genre will mostly enjoy this one and feel the ghosts of many slasher flicks before. Nothing new but great kills (even though it takes awhile to get to them after the first couple as the movie starts), a few laughs, obligatory horror movie nudity, and quick cameos by Robert Englund and Tony Todd make this a fun ride.
Kane Hodder picks up a new role behind the killer's makeup (which is almost asinine in it's over the top-idness) and makes him menacing enough but the abrubt ending is where this one falls short.
I enjoyed the extras on the DVD where the director discusses what the new crop of PG-13 horror movies are missing. Hint: Boobs and Blood.
