Review of Harsh Times (2005) by La L — 24 Jul 2008
An aggressive character study in which the performances outshine the actual plot; the movie would've been even better if the plot was as focused on as the acting and directing. Christian Bale gives some pretty blistering work in a role that'll make many viewers blink in disbelief, even after American Psycho.
Freddy Rodriguez is good in a supporting role as Bale's best friend. A tale of confused rage, confused ambition, staying young too long, the side effects of war and, probably more so, loving a friend so deeply that it hurts.
