Harsh Times is the edgy film Stop-Loss could never be. Bale's wack-job, lick-my-gun toting vet from Trash-istan may not be pretty but his character appears to be one legacy of the Afghan war that gets its due in this fast-paced film.
Bale's intensity is mind-blowing and believable but hardly how Afghan veterans (and their families) want to be portrayed. Maybe that's the point.
