Review of Harsh Times (2005) by Jimmie M — 28 Dec 2010
A bleak little film that ultimately fails to pull you in. Christian Bale acquits himself well enough but seems to be playing Patrick Bateman - on drugs. Eva Longoria is woefully miscast as a sharp, snappy attorney and delivers her lines as if reading from cue cards.
The violence escalates alarmingly and the excessive swearing by Bateman and co. is just not justified. The script suffers from clichà (C)s and the dialogue is stilted, the cinematography is similarly bleak and gloomy.
A happy film, this is not. All in all, "Harsh times" does not have much going for it, but is bearably watchable thanks to the buff Mr Bale.
