Review of Harsh Times (2005) by Justin M — 23 Aug 2011
A gritty and often very graphic chronicle of two friends trying to make ends meet on the streets of South Central Los Angeles. The film has very little music, adding to the grittiness and realism of the violent streets.
Christian Bale is nothing short of spectacular playing the role of Jim Davis, an ex Gulf war veteran, plagued with horrific visions of the time that once was. If your expecting an extremely violent street thug type of film, then steer clear of this one.
Harsh Times portrays a much more in depth look at the mean streets of L.A. and just how psychologically disturbed combat can make you. It also has a very powerful message of friendship, that had me asking myself several questions about my own life.
A truly underrated crime drama that I suggest every movie-goer check out.
