Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Marvin K — 02 May 2018
The Harry Potter franchise gets off to an unsteady start in its first film. The child acting and special effects are merely adequate, and it goes through the motions with little flair over its long running time, despite a couple of spooky moments.
However, the casting of Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters is inspired, and the world-building here will pay dividends in the adventures to come.
