Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Grant W — 09 Apr 2017
This is a film that succeeds at creating a whole new fantasy world for us to explore; populated by a cast of characters that are all very likable and of course, magical. In fact, that's pretty much the film in a nutshell, magical.
I must also place a huge emphasis on "cast" because every single actor and actress involved in this production were tailor made to play these characters. I couldn't think of anyone else in these roles after the credits rolled. Columbus' direction is also excellent; painting a picture of contrasting lights and shadows that clash to create a warm and welcoming picture quality.
This is a film that continues to stay in my memory long after it is over because it excels at creating a believable fantasy world and characters. Luckily enough, sequels have followed to let us get more immersed into this world and the events that happen to the titular character. Congrats to the film crew as well as the author, J.K. Rowling.
